The world of big wave surfing is ready for an epic year of monster waves! After the past month of seeing Portugal and most of the Atlantic coast light up, California and the rest of the world is ready of a contest at the iconic Northern California surf break, Mavericks. Grant Washburn, a San Francisco local was in Half Moon Bay for the opening ceremonies wearing his hooded Elite at the event.
An international roster of 24 surfers are signed up for the annual competition, which can take place anytime between Nov. 1 and March 31, 2014. Surfers are given as little as 24 hours notice of when conditions are right for the competition to begin.
Mavericks is know as one of the coldest most powerful waves in the world producing some of the strongest currents and longest hold downs when caught in the wrong position. This is the testing ground for Isurus Wetsuits. Based out of Half Moon Bay, the suits we make are specially designed for these sorts of conditions. They have been tested by the best big wave riders at numerous big waves all over the world, and they have been very well received.
Lets hope mother nature produces some excellent conditions for this years competition not only for the spectators, but also for the riders and for the future of the Mavericks Invitational.
