The Shield Zipfree wetsuit has quickly become known as the “Super Hero” wetsuit for its lightweight, flexibility and full-on performance. The Zipfree wetsuit features Yamamoto #40 neoprene (upgraded from #39).

The Shield extends the “Arms Up” design for virtually zero shoulder restriction and applies it to the back panel of the suit. The Shield just might change how you think about your wetsuits.

Tee’d off on a few fun ones yesterday at the Bu in my new suit. Loving the new 2.2 Shield! Super light and flexible. Easy in and out with the zipperless feature, and even though the water is pretty warm I diggit for the structural, compression support (kinda like a speedskater suit🤣) and the obvious sunscreen factor! Insane and mosdef recommending to friends! 👍👊🙏🤘🤙

Incredible wetsuit! Wore it february and march here in baja, when id normally wear a 4/3, and it felt just perfect, never cold. The 2/2 is the best most comfortable wetsuit I have ever worn in my life. There is very little flush of water. I wore it in days that required a 4/3, in very cold water and I was comfortable in the 2/2.

I’ve been wearing Isurus for about 10 years now and this new neoprene is a game changer. Definitely the most flexible material Isurus has used since I started wearing them and probably the lightest too. I might be wrong the previous model may have had a little faster drying time than the 2019, but nothing to worry about.

I used this suit all winter long in South San Diego. I couldn’t even tell I was wearing a suit. I won’t ever buy another brand. 52-59 in a 2mm??? Its epic!

  4. Chuck

Phenomenal Suit! I really hate wearing rubber. Too many years in the tropics. So when I heard of this all 2mm suit I could wear down to 55 degrees — first thing I thought was BS — but then bought one to try.

No joke. This is now my cold water suit. I sold my brand new rip curl 4/3 I wore once in Canada. I tested it one frigid morning after the water dropped to 55, everyone else out was bitching about the cold in their 4/3s, I was toasty warm. It’s difficult to believe, but true, this is the only suit you need for a SCAL winter.

The rubber is insanely soft and comfortable. Very high quality.

Since discovering Isurus Wetsuits a year ago I have owned a Shield 222 and the new Shield 2.2 Zipfree. And I am simply AMAZED at how well my Shield 2.2 is keeping me warm through our winter so far! I never in a million years imagined wearing a 2mm wetsuit in January. Just like I read on your website, an Isurus 2mm suit does keep me warmer than a 3/2 or even a 4/3. Down at the beach, I get asked questions all the time about how I like my Isurus wetsuit… does it keep me warm enough… and I love the reaction I always get when I tell them its a 2mm suit. “No way, man” they say, there’s no way you’re wearing only 2mm in January as they pull on their 3/2 or their 4/3 with booties, gloves, and a squid lid.

That aside, my Shield 2.2 fits great. I had some questions about the fit and sizing before purchasing my first wetsuit, and I discovered early on that Isurus Customer Service is a 5 Star operation. The owner, was there to answer my emails promptly and was even available to personally take a call from me in the evening!

Having 1-2mm less rubber on me when in the water, I can surf longer and harder because I’m not dragging all that extra weight around from a water-soaked 3/2 or 4/3. Also, I was reluctant at first to try the zip free model because of my previous experience with zip free models from the competition. And having complete shoulder replacement surgery a year ago, I thought it would be near impossible to get in and out of my Shield 222 easily without any shoulder pain. Kent was right when he told me it is the easiest zip free to get on and off, and gave me examples of other older surfers with the same issue that had no problems. Easy! Done!

I’ve purchased two Shield 2 mm zipfree, one was last years model, my newer one is this years’ model with the improved neoprene. I sold my first one on Craigslist to help pay for the second one and the guy I sold it to texted me the next day and expressed the same amazement I experience when surfing in an Isurus.  Simply put, Isurus makes the best wetsuit I’ve ever used. And that comes from someone who has been surfing over 50 years and has bought a new wetsuit each and every year, That’s a lot of wetsuits!!

The suits are amazing , the best , and very easy to wear , thanks again !!!

  7. Randy

LOVE THIS SUIT! I bought it after wearing the hooded 4/3 through a chilly spring up here in NY/NJ and loving it. This zipfree 2mm is amazing. Feels like I’m wearing nothing. Easy to put on and take off. I wore it most of the summer especially on chilly early morning sessions. The compression technology feels amazing and definitely keeps me surfing longer than other suits. Thanks for making another amazing suit, Isurus. Can’t wait to add another suit to my collection!

  8. Matt Dimedio

I just received my 222 Shield. The material feels a bit different than previous years materials. Its more gummy feeling if I could give my overall impression. I have used the suit 3 times now and am very pleased with the new #40 rubber. My honest impression with the suit compared to last years alpha 232 is its as warm if not warmer, more flexible and less restrictive in the shoulders. The material takes slightly longer to dry but a happy medium between traditional neoprene. The zipfree closure is gives you less bulk in the upper torso, and I found that if you take the extra time to manipulate the material to your body you will get a great seal. Water temps were 62F right now. The suit had plenty of warmth and allowed me to paddle as much as I wanted without tiring. The new #40 material is super nice and these suits are definitely warmer than the competitors!

The best suit ever! Burning up in 58-degree water! Does not feel like your wearing a suit! Super Light!! Good Job Isurus!
